flash insanity
Wow. Thoughts is really late. But the shirt winners are in. Yay! You can go see at birthday frenzy.
Meanwhile. The reason Thoughts is really late is --
Flash is kicking my ass.
Again.
So this week's Thought is:
Flash Insanity
This is such a demonic program. What makes me unhinged is I know when you know what you are doing Flash is easier to do than the assemblage you have to do with html to put a page together. With Flash, it is all right there in one place with one library, presto, text, graphics, sounds, links, everything is in one place and you put it together in that one spot and then you load one thing and you are set. But --
Knowing what you are doing is the hard part.
I go hang out on flashkit.com and download stuff and pull it apart to see how it works (when I can get it apart to see how it works, some of those Flash designers are more compact and well stacked than Japanese car manufacturers can dream of being and if you have seen the difference between American automobiles and Japanese automobiles up close and personal you will know what I am talking about and if you have not um well never mind) and read tutorials and then --
Something doesn't work.
So I go hang out on flashkit.com and download more stuff and read more tutorials and then --
Something else doesn't work.
Part of the problem is most of the tutorials are written by people on PC's for Flash 4 and I am on a Mac with Flash 5 so reading PC Flash 4 tutorials and then doing the translation to make stuff work on a Mac with Flash 5 for me can be sort of tricky and does not always work. In a lot of cases flat out does not work. Right now my big fight is with sound. And poor Max and Cow is my experimental project (I am animating Max and Cow and if I live through the process you will get to see it yay!) so now I am Mad Max and Cow Flash Girl.
(I think I should get a cape and a tiara to go with a title like that. I should probably get diamonds and orchids for the years Flash is shaving off my life too.)
There is all sorts of other fun stuff that happens too. Like for some reason I cannot download movies off the flashkit.com site with internet explorer 5.0 but can with Netscape Navigator 4.7. This makes no sense, I use Internet Explorer it has all the plug ins that Netscape does not because I do not update Netscape much ever I just use it to check web pages before loading them but there it is. Meanwhile for some reason Netscape Navigator 4.7 can not download sound loops but Internet Explorer can. I think. I get confused bouncing between browsers. And basically am just online with two browsers all the time now so I can go back and forth to pick up stuff with Netscape that I.E. cannot get and pick up stuff with I.E. that Netscape can not get. Which is unsane. And --
In the middle of THAT FRENZY Flash refuses to recognize Internet Explorer as a preferred browser so all the Flash stuff I have to preview in Netscape which is not updated at all.
It is a maze.
Meanwhile QuickWhatsitFromHell keeps trying to take over the computer and convert everything to its file format even Flash stuff. I really hate QuickWhatsitFromHell. If it does not stop that I am going in search of MagzillaWhatsit. And in the middle of all that half the software plug ins out there for this kind of stuff run great on PCs but the Mac versions are some sort of beta test drive from hell that just makes life that much more interesting. . . .
At any rate. It is all things Flash around here and probably I will be bald soon. Which means no more dying my roots and maybe I can get a nifty wig and never have bed hair again yay! (Well maybe yay, hmm.)

PPS: What is up with the website opening browser window has been a big question lately. What is up with that is it is scaled for a screen resolution bigger than 800 x 600, which, before I changed the page parameters, I did not realize half the web population is still using. (Wow I thought I was a technophobe.) Okay you have three choices if this is a problem for you:
Choice One: change your monitor resolution and if you do the whole net will be prettier you really should. (It is right up there under "control panels" you can do this.)
