wonder kitty jones

Okay can I just say Jones is the smartest cat in the world? I am not kidding. Here is how smart Jones is:

I go out today doing errands. One of my errands is to pick up Jones food because we are scraping the bottom of the barrel here with Jones food, really down to the last nuggets and Dolph steals those every chance he gets because Dolph loves cat food so when we are down to last nuggets it is touch and go how long those will last a couple Dolph raids and it is all over starvation kitty time.

[Not really Jones loves dog food so if push comes to shove he will be eating dog food and real happy about it too but this is special medical Jones food and all he is supposed to eat so I make an effort here, dog raids aside, not to run out of it.]

So I go run errands. I come home with all these bags under my arms. One of those bags holds Jones food but Jones does not know that because a) he cannot see it and b) he cannot smell it. That bag is vacuum sealed and Jones has almost no sense of smell. My animals are all like that. Each one lacks one sensory perception. So Loki cannot see. Dolph cannot hear. Jones cannot smell. They are like the see no evil, hear no evil, smell no evil eiquivalent of the monkey story. Except they talk back. But here I come in the door with all these packages. And I say, Okay I got food Jones is saved from starvation.

Okay here is the thing about Jones. Jones understands English. I am not making that up or anthropomorphizing [did I spell that right?] either he really does. So the second I say I got food and Jones is saved from starvation, Jones yells "yay!" and runs to the bathroom door that is the door to his office where he takes all his meetings and food. He knows right away there is new fresh food in a new fresh wrapper that will be flavorful because it is vaccuum sealed and brand new fresh and he is totally happy.

Jeez this cat is smart.

I did not even know he was that smart till today when I realized he got a statement like "Jones is saved from starvation" and yelled yay and hit the office. Starvation is three syllables. That is a big word for a cat. Not to mention an abstract leap from there to "new Jones food is in one of those bags." But he got it.

Did I mention he also comes when I whistle and sits on command? He is so smart. Next we are going to do onomatopoeia. I bet he gets it in no time.

Love and Kisses,
